Go here for silks before you go anywhere else
crm108 recommends this,
Had a great time here, intesting to learn about the different fabrics, and how to tell fakes from genuine articles, plus the opportunity to test your skills with someone trustworthy. It was best when the shop was quiet in the morning and the owner could spend plenty of time with you. Can be difficult to find, as the owner doe

Superfriendly and no rip-off!
sannyber recommends this,
Great shop, nice owner. He teaches you how to recognise fake pashminas and silkscarves from the real ones (he burns threads from the scarves, lets you smell and touch them). No rip-off prices like everywhere else. Really lots of beautiful scarves, bedlinens, etc. And you can buy both cheaper angora scarves or the rally finest pashimnas, and silk saris, etc. It is a must if you want or need scarves as gifts or for yourself and you are in Varanasi. It is totally worth the time it takes (when you can't decide from all the million different ones).

Really fun, honest place to shop in Varanasi
akemicloud recommends this,
Both my boyfriend and I were really impressed with this place. The owner was really helpful and honest about the scarves we were interested in, explaining the material and how to spot fakes. It was really educational and refreshing!
Do yourself a favor and stop by here before going anywhere else in the city, you will not be disappointed. Just be careful to not get taken elsewhere when asking for it. If you are worried this may happen, try giving them a call before coming in. We found the place by following the Lonely Planet book and the signs on the main intersections around the store.
Good for: scarves, pashmina, silk, Sarees

Nice experience shopping here! Genuine products, No pressure
kiwi_nico recommends this,
Really enjoyed shopping here! Completely different to anywhere we shopped in India! The people were so relaxed and friendly - we actually ended up staying for a couple of hours and having such a great time! We normally feel under pressure and end up not wanting to buy anything but here it was a good experience!
Good for: scarves, Shawls, silk scarves

Fun, educational and honest
jernsaxa recommends this,
we came to Baba Black Sheep after having visited a shop where the owner "was a friend" of our guest house. We obviousy got ripped off and afterwards went to Baba Black Sheep to find the opposite experience! The owner of the store showed us different scarfs and then asked ud to choose which one we thought was the best/ most expencive. After guessing we were told about the composition of different scarfs and how to know which were real silk and pashmina and which were blends of polyester.
After having a short and fun introduction to the scarf market we went onto seeing the different kinds and at no time did we feel pushed into buying something we didn't want. All in all one of the best buying experiences I've had in India after having lived here for 6 weeks. A must-visit if you're looking for silk in Varanasi.
Good for: Ambience, silk, Guidance, Honesty

Can´t go wrong at Baba Blacksheep, best buy in India
bernardomartorell recommends this,
Wow! What a great experience, a highlight of Varanasi and all of India for that sake. We spent several hours at the shop, and even came back the next day to buy more and pick up a dress and some tailored clothes we had made. We have been all around Asia in the last 7 months and this was the best place to shop we have seen. We asked a thousand questions and the owner was happy to answer, while other places usually frown when we get too picky. Ordering through the website (at the same low fixed prices!) is also extremely convenient and a sure bet.
Good for: pashmina, silk, dress, tailored clothes

Clever silk and Pashmina shopping in Varanasi
agatheetph recommends this,
Definitely the place to go in Varanasi to buy silks and Pashmina at fair (and fixed) prices. Beside the quality of the products, the best part of the experience might be to meet Mr.Shaleem and to take the time to learn about the nice stuff you're buying. Don't miss it!

Very honest und sympathic shop man selling unfaked scarfes.
sbraig recommends this,
We spend over two hours in this shop. The owner explained us a lot about diffrent ways to counterfeit silk and how to identify real ones and he also showed us who to wear a saree. The prices are fix and really fair. And he offers good chai! One of my best experiences in Varansi!!!
