Lonely Planet review for Subhash Emporium

This expensive but honest marble-carving shop has been knocking up quality pieces for more than 35 years. Watch artisans at work in the entranceway before delving into the stock out the back.

good display of inlay work -- but dangerous place to work!

    kfoster99 recommends this,

Place makes high quality marble pieces inlayed with semiprecious stones, workers on the terrace doing their thing and the manager gives an interesting description of the craft. Extensive showroom with their products, which are very nice but also pricey. BUT there is a problem for me. I saw some workers in the back workshop cutting marble, surrounded by clouds of marble dust -- and no facemasks or other protection. Very dangerous, violates all standards for occupational safety. India may have lax occupational safety standards but...

Galerie et Boutique d'art (d'incrustation en marbre)

    mouton recommends this,

Perhaps the most authentic place to see & buy this fine art.

    cjcollins recommends this,

We visited this place after going through the maze of shops lined up near the Taj Mahal. One look at their creations was enough to tell the difference in their quality and workmanship as compared to road side shops.

The master pieces displayed in their private collection (not for sale & not for photography, as the assistant will tell you) are real works of art. Perhaps the best works we ever came across. A feast for the eyes.

Prices may be higher than cheap shops, but certainly not a rip off, for the quality and authentic workmanship they offer. As LP has put a mention of the word "expensive" in their review, these guys offered us 20% discount.

To sum up, its worth a visit to see the fine technique of this 17th century art, and you may not walk out before giving into the temptation of purchasing something.
