Itinerary

Day 1 Chennai

Located in India's Bay of Bengal, Chennai is a Tamil cultural centre and home to India's second largest film industry, known as Kollywood.

Day 2 Tirupathi

Tirupati attracts millions of pilgrims to its Hindu temples each year and is especially revered for the Venkateswara Swamy temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara.

Day 3 Bush Camp

Journey through remote areas of beautiful India countryside, bush camping along the way.

Days 5-10 Orissa Tribal Area

Home to over 60 tribal communities, Orissa's tribal areas are fascinating with music, dance, villages, markets and agriculture unlike anywhere else in India.

Days 10-11 Puri

A Hindu holy city, Puri is revered for its Mathas (Hindu monasteries) and monuments, admired for its wonderful swimming beaches and treasured for its numerous fairs and festivals.

Days 13-14 Kolkata

With its colonial architecture, mouth-watering cuisine and celebrated intellectual and arts scene, Kolkata confronts in so many ways but surprises in just as many.

Important notes

1. With increasing concerns about tourists embarking on tribal safaris, the government of Orissa has imposed strict rules for trips to areas inhabited by tribal groups. As a result, the Orissa part of our itinerary has changed and we will now stay in hotels, lodges, or campgrounds associated with local NGOs rather than bushcamping in villages. We will also travel with a local guide for the duration of the visit to the tribal area and have more meals and activities included. This has all resulted in a significant increase in the kitty for this trip compared to what has previously been advertised.2. Please note that this trip requires minimum numbers to depart, and may be cancelled up until 56 days prior to departure. The places showing on the dates and availability page are an indication only so please contact Intrepid to check if your preferred date will depart before making any final arrangements, such as booking non-changeable flights.3.
