Freshly ‘N Hot
Yes, the name makes no sense, and we’re not sure it’s some cute misspelling either, considering the guys who run this open-air cafe have so many other Western standards down. Especially the ice coffee: hands down the best in town.

Le Club
This club wraps three restaurants into one, with heavy French fare, a simple garden terrace and – unique to Pondy as of our writing – Vietnamese and Southeast Asian fare in the attached Indochine.

Surguru
Simple South Indian served in a posh setting. Surguru is the fix for thali addicts who like their veg accompanied by the strongest AC this side of Chennai.

C
Rose Garden
This is one of the better biryani shops in a town that’s surprisingly full of joints serving this tasty Muslim treat.

Madame Shante’s
This rooftop option, which does its stock-in-trade in French, with a focus on seafood (try the garlic squid), isn’t quiete as polished-looking as the competition, but the food is still excellent and the ambience decidedly open-air and alluring.

Palais Croisette
On the roof of Hotel Ramakrishna, the Palais manages very nice pasta (put it this way: it came recommended by an Italian traveller) and similarly good fresh seafood.

Situated near the Gandhi statue, this is a good spot for sandwiches, coffee (hot or ice) and clean views over the Bay of Bengal.
