Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin)

Getting there & away

The surprisingly sedate bus stand is a 10-minute walk west of the centre along Kovalam Rd and there’s a handy SETC booking office (7am-9pm) on Main Rd.

The train station is about 1km north of the bazaar and temple. The daily Chennai Egmore Express departs for Chennai at 5.15pm (sleeper/2AC/3AC Rs 189/321/1026, 13 hours) and the 6.35am TiruchirappalliHowrah Express to Chennai departs on Saturday. The same trains stop at Madurai and Trichy.

To Trivandrum there are two daily express trains (2nd class/3AC Rs 33/183, two hours, 87km).

For the real long-haulers or train buffs, the weekly Himsagar Express runs all the way to Jammu Tawi (in Jammu and Kashmir), a distance of 3734km, in 66 hours – the longest single train ride in India.
