Seagulls Restaurant
Although this is a restaurant, the waiters generally look bewildered if you order food. But the location, with a balcony overlooking the sea and views north along the promenade, makes it great for a cheap beer on a warm evening; an expansive downstairs veranda was being constructed when we visited.

This modern version of the English pub is one of the few places in Chennai that hosts live music nightly. Not always great music, but music nonetheless. The atmosphere is casual, with Kollywood types occasionally gracing the place with their presence.

Space Coffee & Arts
A funky little semi-open-air cafe for juice, coffee, beer, a bite and some damn fine cocktails (hello, Blue Lemonade). Staff are friendly, locals and tourists congregate here, and all in all it’s the most social traveller spot in Pondy.
