You will usually have to go through the rigmarole of haggling, walking away etc to get this fare. Some drivers ask tourists for ₹100, ₹150 and other absurdities. It costs around ₹300 to hire an autorickshaw for a day of local sightseeing.

A cheap and environmentally friendly way to buzz around is by bicycle; many guesthouses can arrange bikes to rent, costing around ₹50 per day. Scooters and motorbikes, meanwhile, are great for exploring the surrounding countryside.
