This is the outlet for Seva Mandir, an NGO set up in 1969 to help rural women. The small shop sells attractive fixed-price textiles; profits go to the artisans and towards community development work.

    Beautful cotton garments with hand sewn details/block prints

    Having visited the 2 shops in Udaipur, I sought out some of the women who do the hand finishing and sat with them at home. It is real pains-taking work, that I could, but would never get around to doing myself! I have also been to one of the villages where the block printing happens. (Much of it is actually resist dying, in that the wood blocks are used to print mud onto fabric, which is then dried and the fabric dipped in the dye, washed, and the like magic the image is saved! Well worth visiting the shops in the old city and out at Fatehpura. For a moment forget the hard sell and trying to haggle for a bargain and enjoy the age old skills in these wonderful items!
