Location, location. Yes, much of the resplendence of the Lake Palace Hotel has to do with the sheer fact that it is seemingly floating on Pichola Lake. But with open-air courtyards, marble swimming pool and magnificent terraces, it is also one classy (and deservedly famous) palace unto itself.
It's no wonder this shining 250-year-old structure has seen many a white wedding dress flowing along its magical main terrace, which has an extraordinary view and sits above a lotus pond. When you've maxed out your tolerance for outrageously incredible views, come back down to earth with a chess game in the lounge, a brewskie in the bar or a session with the astrologer near the lobby. Or you could just luxuriate in your room - which just might be enlivened with silks, artefacts, ornate furnishings and intricate paintings or murals, and will certainly be equipped with mod cons. Some rooms are handsome, others are sumptuous. Any drawbacks? The restaurant here has received consistently mixed reviews from guests. And, when drought hits and the lake waters are low, the setting loses much of its majesty.
