Lonely Planet review for Mehrangarh
Still run by the descendants of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, Mehrangarh is captivating. As you approach, the walls soar overhead in a mesmerising demonstration of the skills of the builders. Cast off your audio-tour prejudices, as this tour, covered by the foreign-visitor admission charge (which also includes camera fees), is terrific, with a mix of history, information and dramatically narrated anecdotes. It’s a real treat to wander around at your leisure, taking a fix of information when you feel like it. Personal guides are available for Rs150.

magniloquently awesome !!
traveloggers recommends this,
Twelve floors high, marble floored, shining rust iron artillery, expansive museum, a moat that is almost like a river - the fort is Royalty! Host to a plethora of festivals like the Jodhpur Rajathan International Folk Festival (RIFF) - a cultural festival that is attended by the whos who of the city - the maharaja, the royal family, the expats, the culture lovers. It has events like - sufi music concerts, desi soul(fusion of spanish and rajasthani Maand folk), DJ nights. What set it apart was the full moon night, the wine, the italian food, the rajasthani folk dancers dancing to the tunes of flamenco artists and the all so talented flamenco dancers performing to the Maand(rajasthani folk music). Awesome would be an understatement!
In the night, the fort is a beauty to watch. The breeze on the twelth floor coupled with the view of the well lit city emanates an aura that is unforgetable!for more check this out - http://blog.traveloggers-phototales.com/2010/10/jodhpur-mesmerizing-marwar.html

Most majestic of the forts in Rajasthan
epharaoh recommends this,
Jodhpur, I hear, is usually sidestepped for the more romantic Udaipur or treated as a transit City onto the Thar and Jaisalmer by most tourists. Which is rather unfortunate coz its worth going there for Meherangarh alone. Of all the forts we saw this trip (and boy, have we seen a few!) Meherangarh beats every other one. Its the hugest and most majestic of the lot. Prolly also the best maintained. - As noted by a friend

Mehrangarh, Chokelao Garden and Flying Fox
braddles333 recommends this,
The Fort is just sensational - I'm not one for audio tours but this was one that didn't make us want to curl up and nap in the 40 degree heat - but what really blew us away was the garden behind the Fort which they call Chokelao (or sometimes it seems, Chowkelo). Either way, the place is beautiful. A real oasis of green lawns, lush palms and endless exotic plants in the shadow of the Fort. Another highlight is the Flying Fox which (I think) recently opened up here. There office is in the garden and they run zipline tours around the garden and out into the park beside the Fort - awesome stuff. Tough in the heat - we should have chosen one of the later sessions - but the crew there (mix of foreign and Indian staff) were exceptional. Not cheap, mind, but worth considering. We also loved the Durrie exhibition - a little fabricated camp of mud huts high up in the fort which exhibited and sold local carpets.

monumental!

The best of the Rajasthan forts, with awesome views over the old city and room after room of amazing decoration. It almost feels like the palace if carved into the mountain. The audio guide was the best I've had anywhere, and it came complete with a guy in a uniform ushering us into an air-conditioned retiring room set aside for audio guide users, just as the heat was killing us. yay!
