Lonely Planet review for Salim Singh-ki-Haveli
This private haveli has an amazing, distinctive shape – the top storey mushrooms out into a mass of carving, with graceful arched balconies surmounted by pale blue cupolas. It was built about 300 years ago; part of it is still occupied. Salim Singh was a fearsome prime minister when Jaisalmer was the capital of a princely state.

Elegant Side of A Tyrant
raviputcha recommends this,
Salam Singh Haveli shows off vulnerable side of a tyrant minister - who caused Jaisalmer kingdom to become British protectorate in 1818. The tower housing moti mahal (house of pearls) is rich in interior and exterior. Elaborate carvings of peacocks, flowers and floral patterns on the outside and play of light and colours in the moti mahal paint an altogether a different side of Salam Singh.
The resident guide shows you tiny rings below the parapet walls of the balconies telling, they are used for hanging oil lit lamps all around. Nearly 40 such lamps lighting up a beautiful tower amid dreary desert with only the fort in view...from distance you can hear music playing in the tower and girls dancing...fabulous indeed!!
