Lonely Planet review for Patwa-ki-Haveli

Most magnificent of all the havelis, its stonework like honey-coloured craggy lace, Patwa-ki-Haveli towers over a narrow lane. It was built between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers who were brocade and jewellery merchants. It's most impressive from the outside, but the fort view from the roof is superb, and the interior richly evokes 19th-century life.

    Magnificent Mansion

    raviputcha recommends this,

This magnificent art work in sand stone was a mansion of wealthy opium trading family.

This haveli is a true representation of lifestyle of wealthy and influential businessmen of Rajasthan. Ingenious schemes to conserve water and food stuffs, for keeping the house cool while outside world is getting baked in blazing heat, to protect the inhabitants from hungry and poor outsiders, provide privacy to women of the house - this haveli is a reflection of hearts, minds, culture, taboos, fears, insecurities, wealth and celebration of people living in Rajasthani deserts in ancient times.

Go watch, understand absorb so that you can appreciate what it treasures.
