Vipassana is one of India’s oldest forms of meditation. The aim of this form is to achieve peace of mind and a contented and useful life through a process of mental purification and self-examination. Located in beautiful surrounds, this centre runs courses (for a donation) in meditation for both beginners and more advanced students throughout the year. Courses are usually for 10 days, throughout which you must observe ‘noble silence’ – no communication with others. This serene meditation centre is tucked away in the hilly countryside near Galta, about 12km (by road) east of the city centre. Accommodation is in single rooms (some with private bathroom) and vegetarian meals are available. Courses are offered in Hindi, English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Mandarin and Burmese. Bookings are essential.
