Introducing India–Pakistan Border at Attari–Wagah

Because of the tense relations between India and Pakistan, few foreigners actually cross the border between Attari and Wagah. However, plenty of people come to watch the curious border-closing ceremony every evening.

The border is 30km west of Amritsar; buses run to Attari (₹28), but you'll have to walk the last 2km to the border. For the border ceremony, most people arrange a taxi with their hotel in Amritsar (around ₹600), but you can also charter a taxi (₹800), or take a shared taxi from near the southeast gate of the Golden Temple (₹100). You'll need to leave about two hours before the ceremony starts.
