Introducing Western Arunachal Pradesh

An impelling sense of journey is the core essence of any trip into the culturally magical and scenically spectacular land of Western Arunachal. Two full days of hobbling along what could easily be called the worst road in the world takes you through layer after layer of magnificent blue mountains until you reach Tawang, the archetypal Shangri La guarded by ageless hills and inhabited by the Monpa (a people of Buddhist-Tibetan origin) people. Ideally budget at least one week for a return trip from Guwahati (or Tezpur), breaking the journey each way at Dirang (allow one full day here) or Bomdila. Be prepared for intense cold in winter, and vehicular breakdowns during monsoons.
