Have you heard of a temple which is open to people of all communities? Where people irrespective of their class, creed and religion can go and pray. Yes, there is such a temple in ASSAM. It is Shyam Mandir, basically a temple of Lord Krishna( VISHNU), situated in a small hillock in Narengi area of Guwahati. The temple is a part of Indian Carbon Office Complex at Narengi. The owner of Indian Carbon, Late Prabhudayal Himatsingka built it. You will find his statue in the middle of the mandir premises.

Before relocating to Kuwait, we resided at Duliajan, a famous oil town of Assam,India. It is the headquarters of Oil India Limited. Once we planned to spend the weekend in our neighboring town Digboi which is regarded as the oil town of Assam. I waited with anticipation and excitedness for the weekend and finally the day arrived. It was a Friday and we had decided to drive in the evening from our Duliajan to Digboi. It’s approximately 28 km from Duliajan and took us one hour.

Bihu is the heart of Assamese people of India. It is the symbol of Assamese culture and festival. The Assamese celebrate three types of Bihu in a year and Rongali Bihu is celebrated to mark the beginning of the New Year. The new year of Assamese calendar usually falls on April 15 and starts with the month 'Bohag'. This is the reason why Rongali Bihu is also called 'Bohag Bihu'. The word 'Rongali' is derived from 'Rong' which means happiness and celebrations. So this festival represents happiness of the society.
