In a modern (read: ’80s) glass-fronted building, the Princess Inn promises a relatively quiet sleep in spotless surrounds. Satellite TV and immaculate green-tiled bathrooms are thrown in for good measure.
On a quiet street well off MG Rd. Our value-ometer went off the scale when we saw this place. The rooms here are spacious, spotless and come with flawless tiled bathrooms and TV as standard. Both men and women accepted.
Clean and dull, this standard-issue midrange joint has little to differentiate it from the competition, though it still makes for a comfy night’s kip.
Even though the arctic-level AC would make penguins shiver, this ultrachic business-focused hotel is still a great place to stay. Expect 3m chandeliers in the lobby, zealous staff and plush rooms stuffed with pillows, couches and all mod cons.
While Omkar offers little more than cramped, bare rooms, they do throw in a free ration of mosquito cream every night! Rooms are clean enough, though the street noise isn't exactly a sweet lullaby.
The rooms here are massive and tidy but spartan, except for a few odd grandmotherly touches like pink floral curtains.
With small, cosy rooms boasting satellite TV, a leafy entryway, lots of hush and plenty of smiles, this is a solid choice for a solid night’s rest.
While the rooms are a bit tattered around the edges, they're well kept and offer space in spades. Those facing away from the street are much quieter. They have a 22:00 curfew, as well as the slowest elevators in all of India.
This meticulously maintained little gem lies enveloped in verdant silence at the end of a small lane. The rooms are very simple but thoughtfully maintained and offer frilly bits, like wicker chairs and bright paintwork.
This place will teach you not to judge a hotel by its drab cover.
Trading on its touches of character and quiet setting, this is overpriced. Still, nowhere else has a Venus de Milo statue greeting you in the front garden. The ornate, comfortable family home here has well-furnished though faded rooms.
Homeland has spotless, austere rooms in a brand-spanking new hotel. It is characterless midrange quality for near budget prices.
Relatively new and in very good nick, only the single rooms here are really cramped. Don’t mistake this for its older sister-hotel, Hotel Highland, across the road.
A resort-style place about 20km from town on a secluded beach (around Rs350 by taxi), run by the same owners as Wild Palms Home Stay.
Pravin's rooms are an outstanding example of our favourite Indian budget-hotel label: BBC (Basic But Clean).
Greenland lays out lots of serenity-inducing pastel colours to greet you. Inside, the spick-and-span rooms are great value, have lots of space and come with hybrid squat/sit-down toilets.
Lots of period touches, massive hallways and an imposing reception area lend this place an aura of old-world charm. It has a monster pool and ayurvedic spa, and is convenient for visits to the zoo, museums and galleries.
