To help foreigners, from today they are allowed to exchange Rs5000 per week in old notes (and they'll probably waste 3 passport pages noting it).

And until Dec 15th, govt entities will be accepting old 500s (only) which will better the acceptance on the street.

EDIT: Making this a sticky topic to consolidate some of the discussion, as we now have nearly twenty currency topics in the past two weeks.
Please use this topic if you can, for all your new updates & questions about the currency

Any recommendations for trek in Leh? Looking for approximately 5/6 day duration in organized group. Any recommended tour operators? Heading there last 2 weeks in June, any experience of weather/temperature then? Also all recommendations of towns/villages to visit gratefully received!

Hey legends,

I spent 3 months in India/Nepal last year (inc Sikkim and Annapurna) but it was winter so couldn't get to Leh by road, devastated! So this time I've convinced a couple of mates to come with me to Leh for 6 days as part of a 2 week trip (better than nothing!). Now I need to deliver on fun times.

So my question is, what are the must do's for 6 days, we're keen on anything adventurous, hikes (even overnight), safaris, cycling, anything of cultural significance. Are there any…

Hello. Just wondered if anyone was experiencing similar difficulties to myself. I (UK based) have now managed to have my IRCTC account verified, using a OTP via my email address. This is a step further than I got last year, but I gather that there have been some changes in the last 12 months, so that's all good. However, despite receiving an email saying that my account is now verified, I still don't appear to be able to log in using the details I used to set the account up in the first place -…

Heading back to India again for 3 weeks in July/August.

As my interest in ISKCON and George Harrison have grown strong recently, I’m planning to visit Vrindavan for the first time, and also head to Rishikesh.

A few questions:

  1. Is Vrindavan a lovely place to stay for a long time, or will 3 days or so be enough?
  2. Is there an established traveller/backpacker area of the town?
  3. Is there an easy way to travel Vrindavan-Rishikesh, or should I return to Delhi and go from there?

I'm planning my trip to India for 2018 and I would like to visit the city of Nagaur from Jaisalmer. So, my question is: is it posible to travel between both cities by bus?

Fron Naguar, could I take a bus to go to either Jaipur or Bikaner?

Cheers

Hi everybody!!

I have an e-Tourist Visa, 60 days with 2 permitted entries.

I entered India through Delhi airport, 22 days ago. Now I leave to Nepal for three weeks.

My visa is multientry so I want to ask: CAN I ENTER AGAIN TO INDIA BY LAND? THE SECOND ENTRY CAN BE DONE BY LAND, OR IT MUST BE DONE BY PLANE?

Thanks for reading X)

Hello,

I'm looking for a good cooking course in India. I'm interested in staying away from commercialized courses, i'd much prefer to go cook at a homestay or a monastery. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know!

Thanks,
Alex
