Getting there & away

Indian Airlines has daily 9.15am flights Monday to Saturday from Kochi to Agatti Island (US$200 each way, 1¼ hours). The plane is a tiny Dornier 228 propeller aircraft and passengers are restricted to 10kg of luggage. Book well in advance. As this book went to press, Kingfisher Airlines had just started up flights between Kochi and Agatti Island with bigger planes and for half the price (around US$200 return). Flights leave Kochi Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 12.50pm and return the same day at 2.40pm – though this may all change so its best to check its website (www.flykingfisher.com) for the latest information. A 1½-hour transfer by boat from Agatti to Bangaram costs an extra US$50 return. A boat trip to Agatti from Kochi is US$50 one way (16 to 20 hours).

For Kadmat, there are scheduled boat departures from Kochi between October and May (US$75 return in AC seats, including food, 18 to 20 hours each way) – allow a stay of three to five days plus travelling time. Get in touch with Sports in Kochi for details.
