Land

Bus

The KSRTC bus stand (Mavoor Rd) has buses to Bengaluru (via Mysore, Rs 188, eight hours, 10 daily), Mangalore (Rs 148, seven hours, four daily) and to Ooty (Rs 83, 5½ hours, four daily). There are also frequent buses to Thrissur (Rs 74, three hours), Trivandrum (going via Alleppey and Ernakulam; Rs 248, 10 hours, eight daily) and Kottayam (Rs 146, seven hours, 13 daily). For Wayanad district, buses leave every 15 minutes heading to Sultanbatheri (Rs 57, three hours) via Kalpetta (Rs 45, two hours).

The new bus stand, further east along Mavoor Rd, has long-distance private buses.

Train

The train station is south of Mananchira Sq. There are trains to Mangalore (2nd class/3AC/2AC Rs 64/310/445, five hours) via Kannur (Rs 34/188/266, two hours), Ernakulam (Rs 57/281/402, five hours) via Thrissur (Rs 41/213/295, 3½ hours), and to Trivandrum (sleeper/3AC/2AC Rs 190/505/716, 11 hours).

Heading southeast, there are trains to Coimbatore (sleeper/3AC/2AC Rs 101/271/388, five hours), via Palakkad (Rs 101/221/316, three hours). These trains then head north to the centres of Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi.

Air

Jet Airways (2740518; 29 Mavoor Rd) flies daily to Mumbai (US$200) – as does Indian Airlines (2766243; Eroth Centre, Bank Rd) for the same price. It also has daily flights to Chennai (US$137), Delhi (US$382) and Coimbatore (US$77), and twice-weekly flights to Goa (US$200).
