Bus

The KSRTC bus stand has buses to Trivandrum (Rs 86, four hours, every 20 minutes) and Kochi (Rs 44, two hours, every 30 minutes). There are also buses to Kumily for Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary (Rs 66, four hours, every 30 minutes) and Munnar (Rs 92, 5½ hours, five daily). Private buses, which are a little faster and more comfortable, depart from the Nagambaram (New) Bus Stand for Kochi (Rs 37, 1½ hours, every 15 minutes) and Kumily (Rs 63, every hour).

Train

Kottayam is well served by express trains running between Trivandrum (2nd class/3AC/2AC Rs 50/251/399, three hours, 10 daily) and Ernakulam (Rs 28/188/266, 1½ hours, 12 daily).
