Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel
Lonely Planet review
Only consider staying at this former palace, 5km east of the city centre, if you're prepared to splash out on the suites, which offer a taste of Raj-era life, with canopied beds, period furniture and lots of froufrou. The elevator is similarly precious, with carpeting and a tapestry-upholstered ottoman. As a government-run operation, the hotel's service can be lax.
