Land
Bus
Long-distance buses depart from the new bus stand (2221085). There are numerous services to Bengaluru (deluxe Rs 220, 10 hours), Hospet (Rs 85, four hours) and Mangalore (Rs 200, 10 hours). Buses also head to Mumbai (Rs 350, 14 hours, 10 daily), Mysore (ordinary/deluxe Rs 240/480, 12 hours, eight daily), Bijapur (Rs 92, six hours, six daily), Gokarna (Rs 200, five hours, four daily) and Panaji (Rs 103, six hours, six daily), as well as Vasco da Gama and Margao.
Private deluxe buses to Bengaluru (Rs 326) run from opposite the old bus stand (Lamington Rd), 2km away.
Train
From the train station, which has a reservation office (2354333; 8am-8pm), three expresses head to Hospet (Rs 47, 3½ hours). Around five expresses run daily to Bengaluru (sleeper/2AC Rs 216/777, eight hours), but there’s only one direct train to Mumbai (sleeper/2AC Rs 289/1223, 17 hours). Trains run on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to Vasco de Gama (via Margao; sleeper/2AC Rs 143/542, seven hours).
