Taxi

Taxi drivers hang out on AVK College Rd, north of the bus stand. A tour of Belur and Halebid will cost you about Rs 700 for the day. A return taxi to Sravanabelagola will cost the same. Firmly set the price before departure.

Land

Bus

Buses leave from the Central bus stand, situated on the corner of AVK College and Bus Stand Rds. If you’re planning to visit Belur and Halebid on the same day from Hassan, go to Halebid first as there are more buses from Belur to Hassan and they run until much later.

Buses to Halebid (Rs 15, one hour, every half hour) start running at 6am, with the last bus back leaving Halebid at 7.30pm. Frequent buses go between Hassan and Belur (Rs 20, one hour); the first leaves Hassan at 6am, and the last bus from Belur is at 10pm.

To get to Sravanabelagola, you must take one of the many buses to Channarayapatna (Rs 20, 45 minutes) and change there.

There are frequent services to Mysore (Rs 65, three hours) Bengaluru (ordinary/deluxe Rs 95/160, four hours), and Mangalore (ordinary/deluxe Rs 95/165, four hours).

Train

The well-organised train station (268222) is about 2km east of town (Rs 10 by autorickshaw); it has a cloakroom (Rs 10) and retiring rooms (Rs 100). Three passenger trains head to Mysore daily (2nd class Rs 22, three hours); the one at 2.20pm is a fast passenger train (two hours). For Bengaluru, take one of the four daily trains to Arsikere (Rs 11, one hour) and change there. Services to Mangalore (2nd class Rs 38, five hours) are expected to be running now.
