Unlike residents of other parts of India, many Goans enjoy a tipple or two on occasion. The tipple of choice here is beer, and Kingfisher and Kings are the two local favourites. Next comes feni, the local liquor distilled from natural products such as coconut milk or cashews. Feni first-timers might want to mix it with a soft drink; a shot in a local bar costs from ₹20 to ₹40. Hard liquor, known in India as IMFL – Indian-made foreign liquors – is largely cheap, and palatable if mixed with something soft, sweet and bubbly. You’ll have fun choosing from the names on offer; opt for a Honeybee (brandy) or an Old Monk (rum) depending on your inclination.
