To help foreigners, from today they are allowed to exchange Rs5000 per week in old notes (and they'll probably waste 3 passport pages noting it).
And until Dec 15th, govt entities will be accepting old 500s (only) which will better the acceptance on the street.
EDIT: Making this a sticky topic to consolidate some of the discussion, as we now have nearly twenty currency topics in the past two weeks.

I visit India every year to practice yoga and couldn't find any retreats that I could take my child to (I'm a single parent). So I have decided to setup my own 7 day retreat in Bangalore from 30th July 2017. It includes Vegan food, accommodation, childcare and 4 hours daily yoga practice. I'm currently marketing at cost price ($46 per adult per day, $23 per child per day) as I want it to go ahead. Would anyone be interested in joining forces to make this happen? https://www.facebook.c…
We have fixed flights going to Darjeeling and we were initially planning to go for the Singalila Ridg Trek. However, we are currently a little bit worried about the weather conditions and the lack of view. Is anybody currently there and give us an update? Also, is the weather report generally speaking reliable for this region? Currently the weather report states rain for the upcoming Dazs and temperatures around zero degrees...

I will be in Northern India in April and would like to go to an ashram and meditate. It should be a peaceful and beautiful place which offers guided meditation for 4-7 days, preferably in one the states around Delhi—but it could also be elsewhere. Does anyone have any good experiences or ideas? Please let me know!
At the beginning of this year my brother and me embarked on a great journey, driving Enfields from Chennai all the way up north to Delhi. It has been an adventure to say the least, but it's coming to an end.
The bike will arrive in Delhi around the 10th of April, and its looking for a new owner. Its a fairly new Royal Enfield 350cc Silver, from 2015. It only has 21k km on it and has been used with great care. We bought it from an official Royal Enfield reseller in Chennai and it has been…

I will be traveling to Udaipur this summer a week and a half for leisure. This is the only city I will be traveling to while in India and I really want to do a day trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. I know that it will be a long journey, but I'm willing to do such travels. If I wanted to reach Agra from Udaipur, what would be the best one day, round-trip method of travel?
