Guesthouses and B&Bs
The ultimate in Goan luxury, set 3km inland from the beach at Arpora, a stay here will see you signing the guestbook with the likes of Giorgio Armani, Sean Connery and Kate Moss...
Comprising the seven-room Siolim House hotel and the smaller, three-bedroom Little Siolim, Siolim House is without doubt one of North Goa’s boutique treats...
Cidade De Goa
Indulgence is the order of the day at this swanky village-style place, designed by renowned local architect Charles Correa, located 1km down the coast from Dona Paula at Vanguinim Beach...
The city’s smartest (and rather business-traveller-styled) choice is the Fidalgo, thoroughly modern, with snappy service and a good range of cuisines courtesy of its ‘food enclave’, including a good vegetarian Indian restaurant, Legacy of Bombay...
Bright, friendly, welcoming, and renovated in the summer of 2011, the Seagull’s rooms, set in a cheerful orange-painted house in quieter South Calangute, are light and airy, with antique bits and pieces of furniture to give them character...
The Leela Goa
If you have the taste for luxury, the opulent Leela is the place to indulge it. Set amid 30 hectares of land, this enormous expanse of manicured Goan perfection has its own 12-hole golf course, and various rooms of varying degrees of decadence...
The Crown Goa
Perched high above Panaji, with lovely views from its terrace and small pool, this is a great option for a little bit of luxury in the midst of the city...
Vivanta By Taj Holiday Village
Next door to the Taj Fort Aguada, this set of 142 cottages and villas is a smart variation on a five-star theme, possessing all the luxuries you’d expect from this top-end chain...
Vivanta By Taj Fort Aguada
Dominating the headland above Sinquerim Beach, the Taj Group’s sprawling beach resort isn’t the best the Taj name has to offer, but its service is still top-notch even where its rooms are showing signs of wear and tear...
Palolem Guest House
If you pale at the thought of another night in a basic beach hut, this splendid place offers lots of plain but comfortable rooms with solid brick walls ranged around a nice leafy garden. And all just a quick walk from the beach.
A fair walk from the beach, but good value if you have wheels. Don’t be put off by the rather gloomy lobby: upstairs, the rooms at red-and-white painted Failaka are bright and sunny, and well equipped with hot water, TV and balconies.
A Panaji institution (these days with just a touch of the institutional) for more than 50 years, the Mandovi offers comfortable, though dated rooms, many looking out onto the wide Mandovi River...
Palolem Beach Resort
Surprisingly well-priced for so professionally run an establishment, Palolem Beach Resort has tents and rooms set around a pleasant grassed area...
Twenty Balinese-style rooms, some with huge four-poster beds, make for a classy and tranquil stay, with all the little stylish touches the Casa boutique team is so adept at providing.
The Banyan Soul
A slinky 12-room option, tucked just behind Anjuna’s scrummy German bakery, and lovingly conceived and run by Sumit, a young Mumbai escapee...
The omnipresent GTDC’s outfit in town, this is an at-a-push reasonable midrange choice, with clean, fairly comfy rooms and a great central location just opposite Longhuino’s. Other GTDC hotels and a vast range of tours can be booked at reception.
Service is indifferent and the rooms are in the bland-but-functional mould you’d expect from GTDC accommodation, but if all else fails it’s a clean place to spend the night, conveniently placed beside the bus stand for an easy getaway the next morning.
This lovely family-run mansion, filled with antiques and loaded with charm, is absolutely as quirky (perhaps too quirky for some) as you could hope for in Anjuna. Choose between the rather over-grandly named Palace or Emperor’s Rooms.
Lovely beachside cottages and pleasant rooms in peaceful gardens, all with good views of a little sandy beach.
Secure, central and bland as they come, the GTDC’s Vasco offering is serviceable if, for some reason, you find yourself stuck in Vasco. British visitors might feel at home with a trip to its Little Chef bar and restaurant.
A successfully rendered outfit in the deluxe Casa boutique mould, this is Vagator’s most stylish accommodation option, with gorgeous rooms offering equally gorgeous views out to the wide blue horizon...
Yet another of the chain’s decent top-end boutique hotels, this branch offers all the comfort you’d expect from a Casa, with a lovely pool and light, airy rooms.
