Dilli Haat

The only other place where you would find an amalgamation of crafts from all over India is the "Cottage Emporium" and the streets of Janpath. So this is a good place if you have a flight to catch in the evening just drop by and buy stuff to your hearts content. There is little bargaining that happens but quality is usually good.

On to the food, I love the Rajasthani food here , ask for the "Rajasthani thali" in the Rajasthan stall, Stalls are marked with hoardings to the top, otherwise feel free to ask. They have almost a 3 course cuisine stuffed into one plate.  The food is delicious and filling too, if you are not used to "heavy" food feel free to sample or share. During summers they have the "chuski" or flavored ice which is popular too.

Just opposite the Rajasthan state stall is the "Maharashtra" stall .. ask for "Puran Poli:" here , this sweet delicacy is basically an indian bread cooked with jaggery.  Move on to the "Momos" in the Meghalaya stall.

All the street fare plus more is available at one place, this is the reason most local people visit Dilli Haat, its also a clean and family friendly place with adequate security/authorities around the corner. Parking is plenty in the back. There is a ticket of INR 15 to enter the complex. 

Additional thoughts, during foggy days in winter, do try the "tea" being sold in mud cups (kulhad), piping hot these make you feel warm instantly. Occasionally themed displays are put up, for e.g: we had a weavers display where they were actually weaving cloth ( not for sale), I spent a lot of time observing the time spent and the care taken to produce quality cloth by hand. 

Overall this is the place to be if you want to spend a day in Delhi worth remembering. Definitely weekdays are better as its comparatively empty.
