I am looking for advice if it's doable to go from the capital to the south in the winter for some hiking, glaciers, ice caves etc. without a guided tour.

I am going to Iceland with my 10 year old daughter between Christmas and january 2nd and some friends from Miami who are joining in are trying to convince me to join on the following tour:

Hi There,

3 Friends and I are are looking to travel the ring road at the end of October and would really appreciate any advice or tips you may have, especially looking at car rentals. From what I can see there are loads of options online however if anyone has any recommendations on companies they have used or companies not to use we'd love the heads up. Also if you know of any hidden extra costs that we should be make aware of as we would like the option for 3 of us to be able to drive.

Thanks…

So me and a friend are travelling to Iceland quite shortly. We are both 18 and so I've heard we cannot legally drink. However I went a few months ago and everything was fine. The question is should we bring a bottle of spirits from the duty free in England ? Will they ever find out in the airport and if so what's the worst that can happen?
Thanks

Hey guys!

I'm going to Iceland for the first time end of October-beginning of November alone and I'm definitely planning to rent a car and drive myself :) I have some winter driving experience, but not on gravel roads in winter, only the asphalt... I am very determined to do as much as I can myself and only take an organised tour when it's absolutely necessary.

My question is, do you think I could reach the Húsafell (for the Into the Glacier thing), do the Snaefellsjoekull Peninsula, the…

My husband and I have just decided to take advantage of the free stopover on Iceland Air and visit Iceland this winter. We'll be doing the 7 night stopover, so we'll essentially have 7 days. I am just starting to research what we'd like to do on this trip but I'd say our priorities are northern lights (I know, hit or miss), ice caves, volcano...and many other things that look awesome.

My main question at this point is, for someone who has ZERO experience with winter driving (we live in New…

Hi trusted thorntreers,
Was wondering if you would kindly give your advice on our itinerary for Iceland?
Just a little bit about us: We are a family of 4 (mum, dad, 14 year old teenage girl and 4 year old boy). We are Aussies and are used to driving large distances (we happily, and often, drive 100 klms to spend an hour or two at the beach). We will already have spent over two weeks in England prior to arriving in Reykjavik (so no jet lag)! We would LOVE to see an active volcano as we are mad…

Hi guys,

we are travelling to Iceland on 9-18th of Oct to explore the west & north (south-east done last year:).

Looking for help on the itinerary, especially on the cities / villages to stop at night (we still have quite much time to plan the activities, but would like to book the guest houses / hotels in advance). Would be very grateful for the tips on where to stay to see the most of the island

thanks in advance!:)

Hello everyone,

I am planning to do a whole Ring Road tour in late September, renting a small 2WD car. I've planned some deviations (avoiding rough unpaved roads and F roads), e.g. through the 862 up to Dettifoss, the road to Krafla and other stops not too far from the Hringvegur. I would like to ask you if in the period between 13th-24th of September parts of the Hringvegur and these types of deviation are usually easily practicable, or if it is probable to find spots of ice snow, or…

Weather

Am visiting wonderful Iceland from 5th - 13th September 2016 and am trying to get an idea of what the weather and temperature will be like in order to pack appropriate clothing for extensive hiking.

Any advice most gratefully appreciated.
