I rented a car with Sixt for 5 days in March of 2017. Red Chevy Cruise with winter tires, got gravel insurance at a great rate. I chose to pick up the car from Reykjavik instead of the airport and save myself a few days of rental fare--we planned on staying in the city and would not have a need for a car. $40 fee (which they were up front about so I don't hold that against them, but save yourself the trouble, just get the car from the airport.) I get to the Sixt kiosk in Reykjavik on the day of…
I am planning a trip with my brothers in late April/early may.
We are looking to do a 3-4 day hike, but I have read that most will be inaccessible this time of the year.
Does anyone know if the Laugavegur trail or at least sections of it will be accessible this time of the year?
Any info or helpful links would be very much appreciated !
Hello travelers (and locals!)! I apologize if this has been asked before- I have tried searching the forum with no luck. A friend and I are coming to Iceland May 31-June 5 and will not be renting a car (neither one of us is comfortable trying to learn to drive on the opposite side of the road) and we are trying to come up with ideas for what we can do using buses and maybe one day tour (dang they are expensive!)! We'd love to check out a small town and experience more of Iceland than just…
I read that there are masses of tourists descending onto Iceland every summer. How intense is it and how easy is it to get away from them and get immersed in a local scene? I went to Corsica last summer and felt that I saw more tourists than locals. Nowhere could I find a restaurant that wasn't populated almost entirely with tourists. Is this how it's like in Iceland?
My partner and I want to come to Iceland at the end of July this year. We are trying to heavily cut costs, and are considering all of our options.
We keep on hearing from semi-reliable sources that there are "tons of accomodations in Iceland that are not listed anywhere online and are affordable". Is this true?
A little about what we are looking for:
- We want a private room with a bed.
- We are not wanting to pitch a tent.
- We are travelling on the cheap!
- We are hoping to travel…
This is our first time in Iceland and we are planning a 5 and a half day trip to Iceland during last week of April 2017.
We are still working on our itinerary but here is a list of places we are interested in:
Day 1: Landing at 2 pm in Reykjavik, (need somewhere close to go as its already late in the day for golden circle)
Day 2: Drive golden circle route (Gullfoss Waterfall, Kerið Crater Lake)
Day 3: hike a glacier (maybe Solheimajokull)
Day 4: checkout Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss…
I am doing a 8 days trip in South Iceland (from Reykjaivik to Hofn and return).
Do you think it is necesary a GPS? The car rental company asks for 80 euros (10 euros per day).
Many thanks in advance
Hi everyone! My husband and I are planning a 14 day trip to Iceland in 2018 to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary but are unsure of exactly when to visit. We are planning on renting a 4x4 camper van and traveling the Ring Road. We want to be able to experience the Northern Lights but we do not want to be unsafe. Currently we are looking at the last week of March and the first week of April. Is this a bad idea or should we put it off until later in April or even May. We really want to…
