I am planning on booking a 10 day trip to Iceland for October this year as a surprise wedding present for my husband to be (going to get the best man to give him the tickets on the morning of the wedding) but need a bit of help with planning what to drive/where to go.
My thoughts so far have been:
Round the ring road - Is this too much in 10 days, will we spend the whole time driving? We are happy to travel a fair amount to see as much as we can but don't want to be up against…
Hi, 2 of us will be visiting from 22 June to 3 July, have 10 days to explore. Have hired a 2wd and will be bringing all our camping gear with us (we are experienced hikers and campers). Getting a little stuck in trying to decide whether to drive the entire ring road or just stick to a few places. It seems feasible to drive the whole thing but don't want to spend the whole time in a car either or be constantly packing up every day. I guess the good thing is the lengthy daylight hours.
1. Which boat option is best?
2. What time of day is better for photography?
I am planning to visit Jökulsárlón in early June and trying to decide between the amphibian or zodiac boat tours. A search on TripAdvisor yields many glowing reviews but I haven't found any comparison discussion so am reaching out to LPers here in the hope that maybe someone has done both.
Our options are as follows:
- amphibious tour afternoon we arrive (driving from Reykjavik) or the following…
I'll be going on a 14-day trip to Iceland in the first two weeks of July with my girlfriend. We have a car booked and plan to mostly go camping. We also have a reasonably reliable tent (Vaude Space L3P).
Does anyone know cool spots for wild camping? We are looking for places with nice views out of the tent. We have "only" a 2WD, so not to far from the road would be good. But of course anything away from the hordes is also perfect.
It seems like the possibilities for wild camping are…
I've got 6 days to see a bit of Iceland before volunteering in the highlands(Kjölur road). I'll be renting a car driving up to Husavik from Reykjavik, seeing the sights in between. If you're in Iceland and would like to join me, let me know.
I haven't booked accomodation and hope to do some free camping/campgrounds to make it cheaper.
We'd be sharing food/fuel costs. Will do Golden circle, but probably not blue lagoon(hope to find less tourist packed pools). Nothing is planned.
Hi everyone. Arriving Rek on 14th June for 5 nights departing the 19 June. This was a last minute trip so I'm now realizing how expensive accommodation is. I got a decent deal on Airbnb but this is staying in Reykjavik the entire time. I have rented a car for 3 full days. (All I can afford...).
I was planning on spending my first day just nursing jet lag & checking out Reykjavik.
Day 2. Picking up my rental car and taking a day-road trip & being back to Rek. I've done solo road trips in many…
I am thinking about taking my first trip to Iceland in October (second week) for 8 days. I am concerned that many things will be closed due to the weather and difficult to navigate. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We are going to Iceland as part of the Iceland Air stopover deal. We've allotted a day to do the golden circle, however... we aren't renting a car and are going to do a tour. I've looked at so many my head is slightly spinning. Is there a particular tour or company that people can recommend?
We are travelling with a 14 month old for 10 days in Iceland and have rented a car to explore. First question: I've read that you may require a car seat approved in Iceland which we would be required to rent, is this the case or can we bring one from home?. Second question: please share any feedback, good ideas or interesting spots and activities to take a 14 month old. Thanks.
I am arriving in Niceland May 29th and staying for 10 days, exclusively dedicating to hiking Westfyords. Is it doable in this time of the year in the first place?
What to pay special attention to?
