We are going to be self-catering in a campervan for the first two weeks in July and ages ago I read that one of the Icelandic supermarkets is much better priced than the others - and now can't find that post - so can you advise on where best to shop, in Reykjavic before we get going and elsewhere too? Or anywhere to avoid? Also is there anywhere recommended (anywhere round the ring road) to get good fruit and veg as I know that a lot is imported but there are some local producers? Finally have…
Come... let's go climb some glaciers
take some photos of the primordial land
ride with me on the blue eyed ponies
eat something we will never have elsewhere
drink with some locals and learn some icelandic slang
Let's get lost together

I'm leaving for Iceland in a week and it looks like the most convenient and cheapest way to get cash is from an ATM. My bank card is a VISA with a magnetic stripe but no chip. Will ATMs in Iceland allow me to pull cash using a card that does not have a chip?
I could use my credit card (which does have a chip), but there are fees associated with an ATM cash advance that I would prefer to avoid.
I appreciate any guidance!
I have 10 nights in Iceland in August. I am planning on doing the usual touristy places but concentrating mostly on the Western Fjords and northern Iceland as I don't want to spend all my time travelling from A to B. I am hoping to travel by bus and stay in hostels or camping grounds (not wild camping). I've travelled a lot independently but as Iceland is so pricey I'd rather not hire a car. Am I being too optimistic in regards to buses? I booked flights ages ago but have only just got the…
Hi all! I am going to Iceland in November. I have been to Iceland before but always in the summer. IF the weather holds and the roads are okay, I would prefer to rent a car for a few days and visit sites on my own, but I know that that's a big if. If the roads are iffy, I would prefer to pay for day tours from one of the (many!) operators. My question therefore is: does anyone know if it's possible to book day trips in Iceland at this time of year only a day or two in advance of the tour…
My husband and I and our two kids (6-8) are planning on visiting Iceland the last week of August/first week of September. I'm running short of time and am feeling stressed about planning the trip. I was wondering if anyone has had good success with self guided tours offered by different companies? I know it will be cheaper to plan it myself but I'm not sure if I will have the time and patience to get it done on my own. I was hoping originally to mix some farm/b&b stays with camping to cut down…
Hi all -
Does anyone have a good itinerary for a camper van road trip along the ring road in late June / early July? Here are some highlights that we definitely want to see / do: the geysir, go glacier hiking, Jokulsaron, Lake Mytvan, Hofn, Ayekuri, waterfalls and hot springs throughout our trip...I know a lot to do in 8 days, but hoping someone has a good itinerary they can point me to.
We have flexibility since we will be in a campervan!
I'm going to Iceland in August (2 adults and a child). Our plan is probably doing the ring road with maybe some extras towards Snaefells peninsula and the West Fjords. I know is not a subjective and not precise question, but what is your feedback about renting a normal car or a 4x4 car? We are talking about differences around 1000-1100 euros against 1600-1800 (cheapest options in each case) for two weeks. Do you think 4x4 is worth?
And do you know any good-deal option for renting the…
If, by some miracle, any of you happen to know of a double room available in the area between Vik and Hofn on the night of July 8th please let us know! We changed our plans last minute and expanded our trip to cover the ring road, and have managed to find accommodation everywhere else. Right now we have one insane day planned when we will drive from Selfoss to the East Fjord area. We will do it if we have to, but there is no harm in trying right? :)
I'm going to Iceland so soon and I am worried about my itinerary so I thought I would ask if you have any advice for me. Here is my general itinerary for 4 days (full days, with travel time it's 6 days). I want to see as much as I can while we are here, I'm okay with busy! I want to soak in as much of Iceland as I can.
Fly into KEF in the middle of the night. Pick up rental car and go straight to hotel in Reykjavik and sleep.
