I'm looking for recommendations for reading material for my upcoming visit. I'm open to many possibilities, but perhaps some sort of contemporary fiction would be best, translated to english, and small enough not to load down my pack too much. Also, any suggestions where to most easily find these books?
By the way, I'm just finishing up a book called "Iceland's Bell" by Halldor Laxness. It's a historical novel, set in the late 17th century. It might be a little dense and dry for some…
Next year we plan to travel round the West Fjords for 2 weeks and as our dates are flexible, I wonder if there are any Summer Solstice/ mid summer festivals/celebrations anywhere in that area. Also any tips on best areas to see Arctic fox Thanks
We will be visiting for a very short time.. 2 full days and travel on either side. We will be renting a campervan to maximize our budget/sights seen. I REALLY want to make it to Jökulsárlón, and realize it's quite the drive from Reykiyavik. Other than the glacier lagoon, i want to see a natural hot spring, waterfalls, etc (the usual)
My question is if anyone has experience with over nighting in a camper van.. where to park it? We want to make the absolute most out of our two days so early…
I'm spending a week in Iceland in August and stopping at several other geothermal pools: Lake Myvtan and Geysir and wondered whether the Blue Lagoon is so special as not to miss. I've got time on my way to Reykjvavik or could also do it at the end of my trip around the country. For those who have traveled the country, what's your opinion? Thanks.
My husband and I and our 19-month-old twins are doing a 3-day stopover this July in Iceland on the way back from a trip in England. We are staying in Reykjavik for all three nights -- basically with twin toddlers, I felt like it would be easier to have one spot at night then having to figure out cribs and such at multiple places. We'll have a rental car as well and the plan is to venture out during the day so we can take in all that we can.
We have two full days, and I was planning on…
I'm heading to Iceland with a bunch of friends in August for a week. We'll be based in Reykyavik, as most of us will ne running the marathon. I bought the Lonely Planet Iceland guidebook and would like to do all of their recommended day trips - Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Snafellsnes Peninsula, South Coast, Borsmork, Landmannalaugar, and Jokusarlon. I have a few questions regarding these day trips -
1) We won't have time to do all of the above, so out of the above list, if you…
My wife and I are looking for 2 more people to join us on a 3-day photo guided trip in Iceland.
Sometime between Sept 18-30.
There's a great Photo Guide company that does 1-3 Day trips that are tailored to photographers that want to get the best shots possible at certain designations (Northern Lights, sunsets, waterfalls, etc).
They also avoid all the hoards of tourists and make the trips very personal and tailored to getting those epic photograph shots!!
The price is per carload (4 people), so…
We're in Iceland for a long weekend and trying to decide between a few day trips. We have 2 full days for day trips and then we will spend one day in Reyk + Blue Lagoon.
Initially we were thinking:
Day 1: Golden Circle and Southern Coast joined tour
Day 2: Snaefellsnes peninsula tour.
However, we realise its a fair bit cheaper to rent a car. Is it possible to do those day trips on our own driving? Or is it sheer madness to attempt to drive so much on our own (only one of us would be…
My friends and I are visiting Iceland in September. We would like to rent an apartment (2 nights in RVK, 1 in Akureyri). Do you recommend any particular website? Maybe is better to go for a hotel room?
Any tips are more than welcome! Thanks in advance :)
I´d like to go to Iceland in August and I´d like to know the budget I´ve read the daily budget could be around 300 euros :(. We would be 3 people and the idea is to rent a car to travel around, staying in B&Bs if possible(cheaper that hostels I guess) and eating in cheap places. Could anybody tell me how much it might cost per day? I´ve checked the hotels and they are very expensive in Reikavik (around 250 euros for a double room) and a car around 100 eur/day.
We are going for 11 days.
