Hi trusted thorntreers,
Was wondering if you would kindly give your advice on our itinerary for Iceland?
Just a little bit about us: We are a family of 4 (mum, dad, 14 year old teenage girl and 4 year old boy). We are Aussies and are used to driving large distances (we happily, and often, drive 100 klms to spend an hour or two at the beach). We will already have spent over two weeks in England prior to arriving in Reykjavik (so no jet lag)! We would LOVE to see an active volcano as we are mad…

Hi guys,

we are travelling to Iceland on 9-18th of Oct to explore the west & north (south-east done last year:).

Looking for help on the itinerary, especially on the cities / villages to stop at night (we still have quite much time to plan the activities, but would like to book the guest houses / hotels in advance). Would be very grateful for the tips on where to stay to see the most of the island

thanks in advance!:)

Hello everyone,

I am planning to do a whole Ring Road tour in late September, renting a small 2WD car. I've planned some deviations (avoiding rough unpaved roads and F roads), e.g. through the 862 up to Dettifoss, the road to Krafla and other stops not too far from the Hringvegur. I would like to ask you if in the period between 13th-24th of September parts of the Hringvegur and these types of deviation are usually easily practicable, or if it is probable to find spots of ice snow, or…

Weather

Am visiting wonderful Iceland from 5th - 13th September 2016 and am trying to get an idea of what the weather and temperature will be like in order to pack appropriate clothing for extensive hiking.

Any advice most gratefully appreciated.

Catching up on some trip reports :)

I’d just gotten a new job starting in 10 days and signed an apartment lease. I figured the correct breakdown was 7 days of taking a completely spontaneous trip to Iceland plus associated flight time, and a day or two of moving :) Trip preparations included booking a flight 24 hrs in advance, buying a Lonely Planet Iceland book, and tossing all my camping gear into a pack. Note: this worked because I already had good camping gear, warm clothes, and rain gear.

Hi all,

I will be in Iceland from 17 to 28 Sep and I am planning to do some hut to hut mountain biking. Ideally I would like to find one or two other people who are interested in something similar so we can plan our own trip, most likely with a guide so we can find the best single track.

My riding style: I like to ride technical trails but usually get off the bike and walk if very steep or high exposure. Fast is fun sometimes but I am more interested in just having a big adventure out in the…

Hi folks,
I have one day for Landmannalaugar, and I am wondering whether take the bus on my own (100eur) or contract the pack with an agency (240 eur).
I see that on my own, I have free time for a 5 hours trek and a bath. On the other hand, with an agency I would not have that "long" trek, but I would know more hotspots of the surroundings, as Hjálparfoss, Ljótipollur, Forstaðavatn ,Þjófafoss and Hekla, plus 1 hour around Landmannalaugar and a bath.

Is it worth to pay the organized trip or on…

Hi there ;)

41 yr old guy, travelling solo to Iceland from 27th August to 5th Sept.

Looking for travel companions to keep me in some form of reality.

I'm staying in Reykjavik (Hostel Village) till 30th so will be doing some day-trip type stuff around there until then. From 30th I'm planning on hiring a small car and camping around the island...returning to Reykjavik morning of 4th. Not sure the itinerary yet, will be organising in the next couple of days.

(I'm not much into tour excursions -…

Hi,

I'm trying to organise a week in Iceland from the 6th November. I've never been to Iceland before and after reading a number of posts, I'm not sure if my thoughts of the trip are the best (due to the possible weather problems more than anything!)

I was thinking of the following: -

Day 1 - Reykjavik to Vik
Day 2 - Vik to Hofn
Day 3 - Hofn to Egilsstadir
Day 4 - Egilsstadir to Akureyi
Day 5 - Akureyi to Langalholt
Day 6 - Langalholt to Reykjavik

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I'm…

I'm (a 30yr old) looking to do a solo trip to Iceland for around a week without driving (I've lived in nyc without driving for awhile and I wouldn't be comfortable). What's the best way to do that? Since I'm going solo I would be open to going with a tour company so I could easily meet other travelers, or public transportation if that makes more sense. I'm thinking early or mid October.

Are there certain tour companies that you would recommend for Iceland with people around my age? Is…
