Lonely Planet review for Kolaportið Flea Market
Held in a huge industrial building by the harbour, this weekend market is a Reykjavík institution and definitely worth a visit, particularly in these economically challenged times. Browse through piles of secondhand clothes, music, antiques and children’s toys, or pick up Icelandic fish delicacies including cubes of hákarl.

Try the rotten shark!
lollajames recommends this,
I wanted to go here to try the rotten shark, a kind of Icelandic delicacy. You can get a small sample for 150 ISK. It's very interesting, something you should try at least once!
They have several rows of vendors, selling both new and used items, from clothing to DVDs to jewelry and decorations. The most interesting, though, was a booth selling old postcards and stamped envelopes from decades ago - a much more interesting souvenir than a generic fridge magnet!

Perfect for when Icelandair loses your Luggage
seattlestravels recommends this,
When I arrived in Iceland, my luggage did not arrive with me. Sadly, it was lost somewhere in airportland and I had no clothing for my trip. Thankfully, I had heard about the Kolaportið Flea Market and it was the first destination on my list. I purchased a nice sweater and shirt to hold me over until my luggage arrived. I also drowned my sorrows in some delicious Icelandic crepes from one of the vendors. YUM.

A Must for Shoppers
kylaclay recommends this,
This weekend flea market was very busy, and very very large. There are many vendors here, not just used items. I purchased beautiful jewellry (new) from a vendor that would have cost me triple in a shop.
Handmade icelandic wool sweaters for sale here were also beautiful and less than half the price of in a store. Plus you can barter with them a bit.
The second hand items were very interesting and not things we would be used to seeing in Canada. Antiques here are very old.
Wish I had brought more money!
