In the LP Budapest 5th ed. it notes that "Most North American phones don't work here". I have an iPhone with service from Fido. In their international talk and text package they indicate that Hungary is covered. I used this package for data as well as to talk and text when in Lisbon earlier this year and it was fine. Does anyone know whether this package will work? Or is there something special about the cell networks in Budapest?
Thanks for your help.
In their last conversation on April 21, Gali said Gross had told her he had nowhere to stay while in Debrecen, and that a young man he had just met invited him to spend the night at his house.
From the limited information about the circumstances of the murder we can already learn one lesson.
The usual safety advice of experienced travelled for almost any part of the world is simple: "Use your common sense and…
Has anyone used the hop on hop off tour and did you think it was worth it? Did you find it reliable? It says it comes every 30 min. Did you feel like you could've used the subway or walked and it would've been easier? And how about the boat stops? Would a full Danube river tour be better? We will be arriving in Budapest tonight and then leaving Wednesday night.

Next weekend we're travelling to Budapest with our family. We'd love to visit the Gelert spa, but I'm not sure if our children are allowed in. They are 10 and 13 years old. We're all exeprienced spa-users (we travel a lot to Iceland and Sweden, also famous for their luxourious spa's) but we do'n want to offend the local bath-users.
Advise would be very welcome!
I'm a female traveling alone. I am currently in Budapest and will take a train to Krawkow in a few days. I have two questions:
1.) Can someone speak to safety? Would you recommend a particular class (i.e. first or second class)? Are sleepers ok? I wasn't concerned until I recently read several accounts of people throwing rags soaked with ether into night train compartments to induce sleep, and your stuff gets stolen. Some also mentioned that some conductors are involved (not doing the deed…
I'm looking for Budapest-based journalists or bloggers who write in English, so just thought I'd try here in case anyone like that is active on the forum or can recommend someone they know. Thanks beforehand!
I like to visit the unflooded sections of Kőbányai pincerendszer, have seen photos and it looks interesting. I know you can go diving in the flooded sections of the tunnel system, but I found no info on visiting the "dry" sections.
If you know something about it please let me know. Thanks!
