Szarvas can be reached by bus from Békéscsaba (605Ft, one hour, 45km, at least hourly), Debrecen (1930Ft, three to four hours, 155km, two daily), Gyula (786Ft, 1¾ hours, 65km, one daily), Kecskemét (968Ft, 1¾ hours, 80km, six daily) and Szeged (907Ft, two hours, 75km, six daily).

Szarvas is on the train line linking Mezőhegyes and Orosháza with Mezőtúr and has services six times daily. From Békéscsaba (774Ft, 1½ to two hours, 75km), it's faster to take an express train to Mezőtúr and change for Szarvas there.
