Introducing Szarvas
Szarvas is a pretty green town 45km northwest of Békéscsaba on a backwater of the Körös River (Holt-Körös). Its biggest drawcard is the arboretum, easily the best in Hungary, but the best thing to ever happen to Szarvas was the arrival of Sámuel Tessedik, a Lutheran minister and pioneering scientist who established one of Europe's first agricultural institutes here in 1770.
