Budapest is loaded with cafes, pubs and bars, and there are enough to satisfy every taste. And for popular seasonal outdoor venues, there are the wonderful (and uniquely Budapest) ‘garden clubs’ and ‘ruin bars’. Wine bars, where some pretty serious tasting goes on along with the quaffing, are relatively new but worth seeking out. Old-style coffee houses, some of which date back as much as a century and a half, abound in Budapest and many of them are classic examples of their type, with ornate fin-de-siècle decor and sometimes service as antiquated as the surrounds. Coffee houses are usually excellent places to sample the city's legendary cakes and sweets.
