Lonely Planet review for Kéhli
A self-consciously rustic but stylish place in Óbuda, Kéhli has some of the best traditional Hungarian food in town. In fact, one of Hungary’s best-loved writers, the novelist Gyula Krúdy (1878–1933), who lived in nearby Dugovits Titusz tér and whose statue greets you outside the restaurant, moonlighted as a restaurant critic and enjoyed Kéhli’s bone marrow on toast (990Ft as an entrée) so much that he included it in one of his novels.

Traditional Hungarian at its Best
iwys recommends this,
Kéhli Vendeglo is a traditional Hungarian restaurant, founded in 1899. Celebrity diners have included Helmut Kohl, Charles Bronson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was also the favourite restaurant of the Hungarian writer, Gyula Krúdy, who eulogized over the wonderful meals he ate there.
You can eat inside the historic building, or al fresco, in the courtyard, to the accompaniment of GOOD gypsy musicians.
More than a hundred years of serving top quality Hungarian food have given this award-winning restaurant a well-deserved reputation for fine dining, kept up by the current head chef, Gaal Bela. The service is great too.
My favourite dishes were halaszle (fisherman's soup) and borju paprikas (veal stewed wih paprika and mini dumplings). Other traditional dishes include pork stuffed with chicken liver rolled in bacon and roast goose liver with garlic. All to be washed down with tokaji!
