Set in an 18th-century inn literally at the foot of Castle Hill, the ‘Golden Stag’ serves up – guess what? – game dishes. The covered outside terrace is a delight in summer and the views upward fantastical, but leaf-chewers should give this place a wide berth and head for nearby Éden.
