Lonely Planet review

The King's is Budapest's only kosher hotel and is within easy walking distance of both the orthodox and conservative synagogues. The hotel's restaurant is lemehadrin (or glatt) kosher and supervised by the chief rabbi of Budapest.

The hotel is housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century building in the heart of the Jewish quarter. The 78 rooms, all of them with en suite bathrooms, are a little too 'old rose' for our liking, but they are modern and comfortable enough. You might not choose to stay here if (a) you don't answer to a higher authority and (b) you want more of a choice about where to rest your weary head. Rooms on four floors look onto a quiet inner courtyard garden or onto Nagy Diófa utca; a few of them have balconies. Special rates are available over the high holidays (eg a Passover package).

Location. King's Hotel is located in Budapest's Erzsebetvaros neighborhood, close to Dohany Street Synagogue, Hungarian State Opera House, and Hungarian National Museum. Nearby points of interest also include St. Stephen's Basilica and Szechenyi Chain Bridge.

Hotel Features. King's Hotel's restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A bar/lounge is open for drinks. The hotel serves buffet breakfasts each morning in the restaurant (surcharges apply). Complimentary wireless and wired high-speed Internet access is available in public areas. For a surcharge, shuttle services include a roundtrip airport shuttle (available 24 hours) and a train station pick-up service. Concierge services, tour/ticket assistance, and tour assistance are available. Additional property amenities include a coffee shop/café, a terrace, and multilingual staff. This is a smoke-free property.

Guestrooms. 79 air-conditioned guestrooms at King's Hotel feature minibars and coffee/tea makers. Bathrooms feature bathtubs or showers with handheld showerheads. They also offer bathrobes and hair dryers. Wired high-speed Internet access is complimentary. In addition to desks and safes, guestrooms offer direct-dial phones. LCD televisions have satellite channels. Rooms also include windows that open and blackout drapes/curtains. Guests may request irons/ironing boards, hypo-allergenic bedding, and wake-up calls. A nightly turndown service is offered and housekeeping is available daily.
