Getting there & away
Buses to La Entrada (US$1.85, two hours, 5am to 5pm, every 40 minutes) leave from a small dirt lot at the entrance to town, just across the bridge. From there, you can transfer to Santa Rosa de Copán, Gracias or elsewhere on the Ruta Lenca. There’s more frequent service from the same stop to Santa Rita (US$0.35, 15 minutes), if you’re just headed to El Jaral or Cabañas.
Rey Express (651 4021; www.reyexpress.net; 5:30am-7pm) has daily service to San Pedro Sula at 6:10am, 8:10am and 1:10pm (US$4.80, three hours).
Hedman Alas (651 4037; www.hedmanalas.com; Calle a Hacienda San Lucas; 4:30am-6pm) has a new terminal a few hundred meters southeast of town, just across the bridge on the road to Hacienda San Lucas. All domestic buses go first to San Pedro Sula (US$14, three hours) with departures at 5:15am, 10:30am, 11am and 2:30pm. From there, you can connect to San Pedro Sula’s Villeda Morales airport (US$20, four hours), Tegucigalpa (US$22, seven hours), Tela (US$21, five hours), La Ceiba (US$22, six to eight hours).
Transportes Casasola (651 4078) has direct service San Pedro Sula (US$5.50, 2¾ to three hours, 5:30am, 6am, 7am and 2pm) from a dirt lot a block east of parque central. You can also buy tickets all the way to Tela (US$9) and La Ceiba (US$9.75); Casasola doesn’t go there, but will pay for your taxi in San Pedro Sula to the appropriate bus terminal. And there’s no price mark-up, making it even handier. Trip durations depend on your layover time in San Pedro.
