Copán Ruinas Getting there & around

Getting around

Car & motorcycle

Car

Driving in Copán Ruínas can be an exercise in frustration. The streets are too narrow for the number of cars on them, and the system of one-way streets has no rhyme or reason – you’ll go a dozen blocks out of your way just to get to your hotel garage. Luckily, you don’t really need a car for any of Copán’s attractions – leave it parked at the hotel and you’ll be a lot happier.

Local transport

Taxi

Moto-taxis run from 6am to 11pm every day. Drivers charge US$0.25 per person in town, US$0.55 to the archaeological site and more for longer distances. As with all cabbies, be sure to confirm the fare before you get in.
