Introducing Valle de Copán

Just over the border in Honduras is the ancient city of Copán, one of the most outstanding Maya achievements, ranking in splendor with Guatemala's Tikal, and Mexico's Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. To fully appreciate Maya art and culture, you must visit Copán. This can be done on a long day-trip by private car, public bus, or organized tour from Antigua, but it's better to take at least two days, staying the night in the sweet little town of Copán Ruinas. There are two Copáns: the town and the ruins. The town is about 12km east of the Guatemala–Honduras border. Confusingly, the town is named Copán Ruinas, though the actual ruins are just over 1km further east.
