Getting there & away
Choluteca’s bus terminal is on Blvd Carranza, at the corner of 3a Av NE. There are small comedores and shops in the bus terminal, if you’re just passing through. Transportes Mi Esperanza (782 0841) has its own station a half-block down the street opposite the main terminal, while Rey Express (782 2712) and first-class Saenz (782 0712) have terminals around the block. La Esperanza has a small hotel (782 0759; per person US$5.50) near its terminal but it’s grubby enough to make a cab ride into town worthwhile. Service includes the following:
San Marcos de Colón main terminal US$0.90, 1½ hours, 58km, 11 departures, 6:15am to 6:15pm; La Esperanza US$1, 1¼ hours, six departures, 7:30am to 7:15pm; Rey Express US$1.10, 1 hour, 9:45, 2:25pm and 6:25pm; last bus from San Marcos to Choluteca at 4pm
San Pedro Sula SaenzUS$19.50, 6 hours; take any Tegucigalpa bus and transfer
Tegucigalpa Mi Esperanza US$2.50; 3½ hours, hourly, 4am and 6am to 5:30pm; Rey Express US$3.50, 3 hours, 8:15am, 12:15am and 4:15am; Saenz US$7.25, 2½ hours, 133km, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm.
