Although it’s over 7km east of Trujillo, the isolation here has its advantages: guests get to know each other over beers and billiards in the airy dining area, and the beach out front is almost entirely yours. Dorms are clean but cramped, private rooms are a bargain for couples (get one on the ocean side), and cabins are pricey for what you get but a worthwhile splurge if you prefer some anonymity. There are bikes, beach gear and snorkel gear for rent (guests only). A cab from town or the bus terminal is around L$100. Hitching is possible too.
