Bus
Two bus companies service Puerto Cortés from side-by-side terminals on 4a Av between 3a and 4a Calles. Between them, buses leave for San Pedro Sula every five to 10 minutes from 4am to 9pm. Both have direct (US$1.60, one hour) and ordinary service (US$1.35, 1½ hours).
For transportation information to Travesía and Baja Mar see right.
Citral Costeños (655 0888; 3a Calle Este) provides daily service to Omoa (US$0.50, 30 minutes to the turnoff) every 20 minutes from 5am to 5:40pm. It also has service to Corinto (US$2.10, two hours) every 15 minutes from 6am to 8pm.
Train
The passenger train between Puerto Cortes and Tela is no longer operating.
Boat
Boats to Belize leave Barra La Laguna, near Puerto Cortés, twice a week – Mondays they go to Dangriga (US$35, two hours) and Tuesdays to Belize City (US$55, 3½ hours). Departure is at 9am, though it is often delayed for up to two hours. You must come with your passport the day before to sign up (yes, it’s a pain). The office is about 3km west of Puerto Cortés – take any Omoa-bound bus and get off at La Laguna. The office is in the fish market, under a bridge about 200m from the highway. Contact Gulf Cruz (984 9544, 982 6985) for more information and tickets.
