A couple of weeks ago, I was on a one-week visit to Haiti, and as I had consulted this forum in planning my trip, I thought I would share some of my experiences, also partly as a means of reliving the trip for myself.
Obviously one week was really too short a time for a first-time visit (I would have had a bit more time if American Airlines had not fiddled with my flight bookings, but that's another story), and that notwithstanding I found the trip so rewarding I largely attribute to my…
I am going to haiti next week, second time. Live in DR now.
Wanna go to ile Tortue in the north, near port au paix.
Any info about getting there, staying there, things to see or do?
Specially interested in photography of folks and landscapes, not so much in swimming/snorkling.
I'm travelling to Haiti in August with a group of Optometrists to run some eye clinics. I have a few days before and after my assignment and need some hotel ideas.
2 days in Port a Prince not too far from Airport as I have to return to the Airport to meet the team.. Hoping to hire a guide to take me out for a few days exploring.
3 days at end of trip hopefully spend a few days at a nice quiet beach.
Any thoughts on visiting in early-mid November: Port au Prince, Jacmel, Cap-Haitian and then on to Dominican Republic. Not interested in the beaches obviously but would rather not get bogged down on roads, drenched continually if at all possible. Trip starts in Cuba so the proximity of Haiti is appealing despite it being the tail end of hurricane season. Any thoughts appreciated.
I will be in PAP on my first visit to Haiti on the 14th and 15th May. I have travelled extensively throughout the region but during my time in Haiti I want someone to help me understand the culture, interact with the locals, enable me to take some photographs and possibly attend a voudou ceremony.
Any information is much appreciated,
Will be travelling for 3 weeks in Domenican and am thinking bout taking the bus from santiago to Cap Haitien with Caribe tours ,really want to see the Citadelle but also read that may is the wettest month in C H so maeybe itsnot that advisable?also any info on some budget accomodation would be great, understand that all there is quit expensive, best I found so far was the hotel Imperial at $60 night, any others?
Thank you to those who have posted recent info on their travels through Haiti. I've found it all to be very helpful.
I'll be traveling through Haiti, starting in the north, through 14 March. If anyone traveling ahead of me has any tips or heads up calls, I'd appreciate them. If anyone is looking for a travel partner for all or some of the time, I'd be interested to hear about your plans or ideas. My budget is flexible to a point, but my departure date is solidly set.
I'll do my best to post…
