Greetings. My boyfriend and I will be traveling to Haiti for the first time in November and are interested in hiring a driver to pick us up from the airport and transport us to a residence in Jacmel. We are seasoned travelers and would not normally shy away from public transportation, but would like to make the trip as easy as possible since it will be our first time there.
Does anyone have recommendations on tour groups or trusted drivers? Normally I would try to arrange through the hotel, but…
My wife and I are working in Hinche and wanted to do a little sight seeing for a long weekend (Friday to Monday or Tuesday). We wanted to get a different perspective of Haiti as Hinche can get pretty claustrophobic. Any thoughts on which destination would be more relaxing, Cap Haiten or Jacmel? And which of the two trips would be less of a headache traveling as we're looking to minimize the headaches of travel? We'll have other opportunities as we'll be here until December so we're just…
This is my first trip to Haiti. So, please forgive my lack of knowledge.
I have booked 5 days in Haiti next month. My goal is to go to go to Jacmel, Parc National La Visite and a day in PAP.
I see that I can rent a car at the airport. Is this safe for a seasoned traveler to travel down to Jacmel & Parc National La Visite? How about PAP?
If I had a driver, is USD100/day an accurate price?
Can you recommend a guide, place to stay and suggested route in in Parc National La Visite?
My spelling could be off. But on a budget - give or take a couple bucks - $100 per night - does anyone have a favorite spot in Petionville ?
Also - how far is Petionville from near where the Marriott is ?
And another also - does Petionville have a decent variety of restaurants and does anyone have a particular favorite?
I am travelling with a friend to Comlombia (from Paris) and we are wondering how to go to Port au Prince cheaply (but with security in mind!) since we have a friend in Haiti. Is there some cheap flights? There only seem to be flights from Bogota to Miami, then to Port au prince...
Have any of you done this trip and how did you make it? Do you have special tips?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Good day. I have been to the DR many times over the years, and want to try something different. However I am not sure where to start. This will be a short trip (1 week) so this time I probably only have time for 1 or 2 places to see maximum.
Should I just go to Cap and stay there. Or, should I go to PAP stay in Pentonville for a couple days and then catch a ride to Jacmel?
If I decide to hire a private driver from PAP to Jacmel how much could I expect to pay? How long is the…
So what did we think of Haiti? Despite the rigours of travel at times, we had a wonderful time and would go back, as we felt we hadn’t seen as much as we would have liked. We only had a vague plan of where and how we would travel, but there’s always a way, and with a few changes of plan it worked out really well.
It was not a cheap trip, costing us a lot more than Central/South America for example, but it is a unique place that you will not find anywhere else. The closest to…
Artibonite valley – Saint-Marc
Next morning we were still unsure what to do about progressing northwards, as all enquiries indicated that going along national route 3 via Hinche was not a good idea. So we decided to take the alternative route down through the Artibonite valley and stay the night in Saint-Marc to break the journey. You have to take a tap-tap or two to Pont Sondé , where the road splits to head north towards Gonaives and south towards Saint-Marc and PaP. We ended up paying about…
Les Cayes – Port Salut
We decided to try to get to Les Cayes directly from Jacmel in a day without going to PaP first. This turned out to be quite a long journey, consisting of 2 motos, a minibus and 3 tap-taps. It’s probably a lot easier to go to PaP first, as there is no direct transport from Jacmel to Les Cayes. We took a PaP-bound minibus to Carrefour Dufort (200HTG) and then caught a series of tap-taps that eventually got us to Les Cayes after about 6 hours in total. We relied on locals to…
